Meke Workshops

FYI hosts regular sessions for young people who want to learn or try traditional Indigenous Fijian dance, known as Meke. Workshops are held in Parramatta and everyone is welcome to attend.

What is Meke? Meke is a broad term referring to traditional styles of dance. It is typically performed during celebrations and festivals. Fijian meke is both song and dance which traditional only a few are given to invent and then teach to others. FYI also creates contemporary meke performances, bringing their own creativity to this traditional practice.
